Important Message – Club Champs Results
A note from the promoter
It has been brought to my attention, as the promoter of the event, that there are a number of problems with the results as published so far for our Club Championships.
Some of these have come about because of the very short window that we allowed ourselves to set-up the entries. We often have had to extend our deadlines for entries to our meets because of low initial take up and to ensure we get enough competitors to avoid having to cancel. The downside of this is the large amount of administration and checking that is undertaken by our volunteer coaching staff has to be compressed into a shorter window and unfortunately mistakes are more likely.
Whilst we have taken steps over the last year or so to make improvements in this area such as electronic entry forms and PayPal payments which ease the workload considerably it is still very much a manual task to produce the final program. The other problem we suffer from is late entries to events. When a deadline is set it is set for a reason, we appreciate that people change their minds about events and we always look to be accommodating to this whenever we can, but this does have knock on effects and wider implications.
One of the reasons the window for entry for this club championships was quite short was because of the wait we had for the license. Having Club Championships licensed to Level 4 does mean that our swimmers are able to use the times gained for eligibility for the Suffolk County Championships next year. This is an important goal for a great number of our swimmers and we as a club think it is essential that our swimmers have an opportunity to reach this goal in a local setting and at an affordable cost which is why we applied for and secured a license for this event. Having the event licensed does however mean that there are rules and conditions placed upon us as part of the running of the competition and as promoter and in conjunction with our referee Jill Walker it is essential that we ensure that we have complied with all the conditions and treated everyone fairly.
It is with all of the above in mind that we are doing a complete audit of the results published to date and will only be providing a set of final placings and awards after the completion of our final session. Please therefore consider all results published so far as provisional with regard to place achieved. We appreciate that there may be some disappointment where the placings are changed which is why we wanted to bring it to your attention as soon as possible. We will do our very best to get the finalised results checked and verified and issued as soon as we can.
It is important to note that despite this ALL times that have been achieved during any events will be submitted to club rankings and be available as individual best times for entry into other competitions, all sessions completed so far have already been sent to Swim England. This issue relates only to the awards for presentation night which will not be finalised until our review is complete.
If anyone has any further concerns or issues with anything related to the club championship running or results then please contact me either in person at the pool or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
