Frequent Questions

We do our best to answer all questions you may have, but here are some of the most frequent ones.

  • Can anyone join?

    So long as you can swim, you can join our club, be it for fitness, social or to compete. You'll be assessed on your ability and needs and you will be allocated the appropriate squad.

  • Can I learn to swim with LOBSC?

    We don't directly operate learn to swim , but work closely with Sentinel Leisure who share our coaches and we can certainly ensure your are put in safe hands. Drop us a line.

  • What's your approach with bullying?

    The club has a policy of ensuring our swimmers are in a safe and friendly atmosphere. We will not tolerate bullying of any kind. Should we learn that bullying is occuring, or parents/swimmers become aware, they should be able to approach us and we will deal with any such incidents promptly. Bullying will not be tolerated, please help us to help you. Please feel free to request our full Anti-bullying policy.

  • When does a swimmer move squads?

    We have criteria in place, that allows us to place swimmers in a particular squad by not only ability, but also with careful consideration of attitude and potential, so exceptions can be made with the discretion of the coaches. Rest assured, we always have the swimmers' best interests in mind.

  • Can I swim in a one off session?

    Unfortunately, as an ASA affiliated club, our insurance requires all swimmers to be paid up members of the ASA. If you wish to join, please get in touch.

  • I'm an ASA Member at another club, can I swim with you?

    On holiday in the area or visiting family short term, but don't want to miss training as you have an important meet? Feel free for your club to contact us and we're sure we can help. We're a friendly club, committed to seeing all athletes succeed!

  • Who are the ASA?

    The Amateur Swimming Association, are the National Governing Body for Swimming in England, the disciplines include: Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Open Water and Synchronised Swimming. The ASA organises competitions throughout England, establishes the laws of the sport and operates comprehensive certification and education programmes for teachers, coaches and officials as well as its renowned Awards Scheme.

Other Common Questions

Can I donate or sponsor?

We welcome donations and sponsorship. The club is run entirely by volunteers and cannot survive without the support of its members and the wider community. We offer sponsorship and advertising opportunities within the club, please feel free to get in contact.

What is the payment method?

We prefer standing order or direct bank transfer to minimise our bank charges.

Does the club compete?

The club actively competes in local leagues along with local galas and events. We also take our swimmers to County and National Championships when they meet the relevant qualifying criteria. If the club is not attending an event that perhaps you feel you would like to attend as an individual, please contact your coach and they will discuss the options with you. Please DO NOT contact the host club directly without speaking to us first as it may not suit your training schedule and can reflect poorly on the club when not done by usual proceedure. We also have the issue surrounding providing coaches on deck which is not always possible. Of course, we'll always try to accomodate.
